Perfectly imperfect

christmas adventure

Christmas is over. And let me tell you, it was amazing. As many of you guys know, I am a stepmom. I seriously hate that word but, it is what it is. My first boy came to see us for this holiday and there were so many emotions circling in the air.

Since we had left Puerto Rico, my husband hadn’t seen his son in a year, mainly because of work. Lucas and I were lucky to spend time with him over the summer since I had to go travel home for work purposes but still it wasn’t the same without dad. So this reunion was long overdue. If there is a word I would use to describe these past weeks it would be bittersweet. I have seen my stepson grow right before my eyes and have witnessed what an amazing person he is becoming.

Sure, there are the “rough moments” but I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. Those are the moments where you grow, learn how to buckle down and be a parent, what they need right now, rather than a friend. I’ve never set out to be a replacement for anyone. It is not my place. I feel our lives crossed paths for a reason and I am forever grateful that I get to call him my first boy. I am proud that Lucas gets to have him as a brother because the bond between them is so palpable and I would never dare interfere with something so fragile and ultimately important for both of them. We are truly blessed, even when I don’t see it, we are.

On another topic, we spent our Christmas day sightseeing around Orlando. There are so many places for kids to explore and have fun, especially over at International Drive, which is where we spent most of our day sightseeing. Again with the “weather topic” it was ridiculous hot. I was sweating like a hog and was so glad I decided to wear light clothing instead of the chunky knit sweater I had bought for this day.

All in all, it’s been an amazing christmas. The year will soon come to an end. New beginnings are upon us and I cannot wait to start fresh, anew.

I hope you guys have had an awesome holiday next to your loved ones.

Hold them tight and don’t forget to tell them how much you love and need them everyday.

Xoxo,

Raquel

Weekday uniform

Weekday uniforms. Don’t even lie. You know you have one. That one piece of clothing you can absolutely rely on over and over for just about anything: running errands, taking the kids to their doctor’s appointments, going to the salon…the list is endless.

I am a definite skirt lover (maybe you have noticed ha!) and this corduroy one from Gap (old, old, old) similar here is one of my favorites when the weather turns a bit cooler. I honestly love the color most of all because it’s so 70’s I can totally picture Jackie from That 70’s show rocking it with a huge collar shirt and tacky vest ha (don’t worry I won’t even try it). So I have recently added this light sweater from Mossimo at Target  to my uniform repertoire because, and I kid you not, I literally feel like I am wearing a pajama top. It’s so friggin’ soft and cozy, not heavy AT ALL and it comes in so many lovely colors as well. It is one of those weather-transitioning pieces that can easily be dressed up or down. This has been my motto when buying pieces of clothing: basic colors, basic cuts that I can get more mileage out of. As a mom-on-the-go, simple is always better, classic pieces go a long way. And a good, lightweight sweater and pretty color skirt will always work for me.

Have a good one, y’all,

Raquel

Boho cardi

Boho cardigan

I’ve always had a penchant for anything bohemian/gypsy-ish (I sometimes wonder what it would be like to be one of those gorgeous girls gracing the Free People website with their disheveled, just-got-out-of bed sultriness). Maybe it’s the fact that I was constantly surrounded by Stevie Nicks/ Fleetwood Mac records -thanks mom and dad- and that whole boho vibe was just meant to be in my life for good. I consider myself a pretty eclectic soul (as long as I can rock it, it’s game) but a good bohemian anything will always melt my heart.

That was the case when I found this boho cardi from Forever XXI (sold out). I was expecting an actual cardigan but this is absolutely so much better. It’s more of a blazer/coat and for the weather right now in Orlando (I know. I totally sound like a broken record about the damn weather but it’s just ughhh) it’s just perfect. I find myself dressing strategically lately because I seriously don’t know what to expect with the weather here anymore. So this cover up is just perfect because it can be dressed up (like a blazer) for the office with exotic jewelry to take the boho vibe up a notch  or dressed down with beat up boots and shorts. For a weekend look, a distressed jean and grey velour heels will be just perf. Normally, you guys know I would definitely not wear heels because Lucas is just a little firecracker and am always running after him. I swear that kid has a battery pack inside him because HE IS NEVER STILL. Regardless, I love that kid so much I could care less if he’s a total Energizer bunny (even if I am praying for it to be bedtime every day by 5:00 pm haha!)

Hope you guys are enjoying the season so far,

Xoxo,

Raquel

P.S. Yes, I totally dyed my hair back to my natural hair color. Really missed it too much!!

Well folks, christmas time is here. The long awaited season. We’re gearing up for celebrations, getting together with loved ones, maybe doing a little relaxing, who knows. The year is coming to an end and if you’re like me, you may want to glam out a bit for an occasion here or there but not overdo it or go too “all out”. Well, I got the perfect top for just such situations/occasions/whatevs from H&M  and believe me when I tell you this is the perfect dress up/ dress down piece of clothing you’re ever gonna own. I’m not one to wear an entire dress made of sequins; I can’t handle that much attention ha! But a little sparkle is totally ok by me. And if you throw in a pair of jeans (my hubby’s..y’allready know 😉 ) well, I mean…boom, there ya go. If you want to go a bit more on the sophisticated side, you can totally dress this with a sleek, black pencil skirt and a black (or white, go bold!) blazer and you will rock out at the Xmas office party. Hell, you can even rock it out for brunch with shorts and beat up sneakers and you will still bring that little “oomph” to your outfit with this piece. You can’t go wrong with this top. And the color is just right for the holidays. This piece will definitely get a lot of wear this season.

Hope you guys have an amazing holiday,

Xoxo,

Raquel
