Easy-breezy Floral shorts

I’m so glad about the weather lately because it’s just be crisp and light and just everything. If I am not running around in leggings and sneakers (typical mom outfit, go figure) I love cute shorts and either sneakers or sandals so when I found these JCrew ones , I had to have them, especially with the price tag (niiiice!). Normally. I would wear shorts with sandals but I had gotten these AirMax’s  a while back and love them so much because they are super comfy and stylish at the same time so pairing these two together was a no brainer. It’s a different but fresh and sporty approach to wearing floral prints for spring.

Flower dress (as a top!)

Hey guys! Hope your week has started off on a great note. So here I am again with another flower print post and this one was quite interesting, style-wise. This “top” is actually a dress and I had ordered it in my size (M) thinking it would look super cute with a little cardi over it. How wrong was I. When I got it, I immediately opened it and tried it on and it was super short! I couldn’t return it since it was a final sale ($10!!!) so this is when I had to get creative. I love how it is billowy enough that I could cinch it with a belt or just use it a flowy top over jeans or a skirt but on this occasion I just did a half-tuck and let the back flow over the denim skirt. I honestly have never felt more comfortable and chic with an outfit all at the same time. I like it because you can go either casual (like I did here with sneaks) or a bit more formal with heels and you will look so put together. So this is an option for your billowy dresses that may be too short to wear and you have yourself a brand new top. It’s all in how you style it, ladies!

‘Til next time,

Neutral vibes

Hey guys! I’m back with a new styling post. How I missed it so! Well, lately, I have been feeling the whole “neutral/monochromatic” outfits flying all over the season and this week I was looking at my Insta timeline and read over at the Zoe Report various tips to how your wardrobe can look more expensive than it actually is by applying and adding a few tricks to your wardrobe styling. One of them was sticking to a monochrome look because it “translates into a polished look that is undeniably chic”. This is absolutely, undeniably so. I had gotten this Forever 21 blouse and, originally, planned on wearing it with jeans. But later on, I remembered I had these Gap khaki pants and decided to try a neutral palette. It is both fresh, versatile and oh-so polished to dress in a neutral/monochromatic palette and it sort of gives me a sense of confidence I can’t explain. Initially, I was afraid it wouldn’t work with my body type, as I am very curvy, but the cut and color of the pants along with the neutral color of the shirt balance my curves along with the rest of my body, almost elongating it a bit. Adding simple, gold jewelry and a neutral color bag will balance everything out. I’m liking this concept for spring and summer because it is simple and sophisticated at the same time. It is one concept I will be incorporating into my daily wardrobe a little more from now on.

Have a great week guys!

Post-partum skincare

Post-partum skin is no joke. It’s such a roller coaster of hormones flying all over the place and, for me, it was a big crash once I had little Lucas. During my pregnancy, I had that “glow” thing down pat. I had never felt more beautiful: I’m talking thick, lustrous hair, skin like porcelain, the whole shebang. People would literally tell me “you don’t even look preggers!” and I would be all offended even, ha! Mind you, I worked out all throughout my pregnancy (even weight lifting and running, since I’ve practically done it since my teens) and never ate better, so that helped a lot.

The kicker: once I had my baby, all of that went to hell. Every momma can attest to the breastfeeding struggle that is hair loss (which I experienced; I have the bald spots to prove it) and for me, my skin also took a turn for the worse. It literally looked lifeless and oh-so dull. I began to see sun spots starting to appear which is NOT CUTE. I haven’t always had the best skin: I fought acne during my teens and that was no picnic. During my 20’s, I was less than cautious about sun protection and eventually, it caught up with me. So, I decided to do the best thing anyone can do in a situation like this: seek professional help!

I decided to consult with a dermatologist after I had weaned Lucas from the breast because I was aware that anything I could consume (even topically) could be absorbed through my skin and could affect him. Initially, and I will be very honest, I had scheduled an appointment for a consultation about starting out on injectables (i.e. Botox, fillers, etc.) because, aside from the splotchy skin, I was beginning to lose collagen -which is completely normal after having a baby in your 30’s. I was suggested I try a medium strength clinical peel (utilizing TCA) and here’s why: clinical peels aid in collagen production, no matter what age, because as dead skin cells are removed, skin is allowed to breathe and regenerate itself, including collagen production. You can buy the most expensive serum on the planet but if your slathering it on dead skin surface, well I’m sorry to say: you’re wasting your money. I can’t even begin to tell you how much my skin has changed because of this treatment/procedure. Sure, you’re gonna look like a mummy for a couple of days (you will peel like crazy and skin will be very sensitive) but the end result is amazing and your skin will glow like never before.

In conjunction with the peels, I’ve kept my skin in check and in optimal condition by including the following products in my daily skin care routine. Most of them contain glycolic and salicylic acids, which when used weekly, aid immensely in removing dead skin cells, exfoliating and allowing skin to glow and thrive.

Dr. Dennis Gross Extra Strength Daily Peel: I had heard of this product so many times before and almost punched myself in the face for not trying it earlier. Two towelettes to use (waiting 2 minutes in between one another) which greatly aid in removing all that dead skin you have accumulated. Instantly, your skin feels a slight tingle and notice a little redness and if you really want that serum to do what it’s supposed to do, you better get these towelettes ASAP.

Pixi Glow Tonic : similar concept of the Dr. Dennis Gross towelettes, only this product doesn’t contain salicylic acid. The fragrance is very light and it’s a bit more gentle since it contains aloe vera. This product is perfect for those with oily skin and are acne prone because it exfoliates in a very gentle way.

Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair: My go-to moisturizer. I use every single day and can attest to it’s benefits and how effective it really is. At first, you may notice some discomfort (light peeling or itchy skin) so I would suggest using it every other day. My skin tone has improved immensely because of this product and even those stubborn forehead wrinkles have said buh-bye. The key ingredientS here are Vitamin C and Retinol, which aid one another in exfoliating the skin topically and allow for new skin to resurface daily.

Korres Brightening Sleeping Facial: This is the holy grail for me. After using the two minute facial peel, I slather this cream on before going to bed. The result: amazingly glowing, radiant skin. No lie. No joke. And the smell. HEAVEN. This one also contains Vitamin C and bonus wild rose oil which, together, help aid to eradicate fine lines and even out skin texture.

Hope this post has been helpful and don’t forget to add those exfoliating products into your beauty routine. Your skin will thank you!
