Flower dress (as a top!)

Hey guys! Hope your week has started off on a great note. So here I am again with another flower print post and this one was quite interesting, style-wise. This “top” is actually a dress and I had ordered it in my size (M) thinking it would look super cute with a little cardi over it. How wrong was I. When I got it, I immediately opened it and tried it on and it was super short! I couldn’t return it since it was a final sale ($10!!!) so this is when I had to get creative. I love how it is billowy enough that I could cinch it with a belt or just use it a flowy top over jeans or a skirt but on this occasion I just did a half-tuck and let the back flow over the denim skirt. I honestly have never felt more comfortable and chic with an outfit all at the same time. I like it because you can go either casual (like I did here with sneaks) or a bit more formal with heels and you will look so put together. So this is an option for your billowy dresses that may be too short to wear and you have yourself a brand new top. It’s all in how you style it, ladies!

‘Til next time,

Raquel

Neutral vibes

Hey guys! I’m back with a new styling post. How I missed it so! Well, lately, I have been feeling the whole “neutral/monochromatic” outfits flying all over the season and this week I was looking at my Insta timeline and read over at the Zoe Report various tips to how your wardrobe can look more expensive than it actually is by applying and adding a few tricks to your wardrobe styling. One of them was sticking to a monochrome look because it “translates into a polished look that is undeniably chic”. This is absolutely, undeniably so. I had gotten this Forever 21 blouse and, originally, planned on wearing it with jeans. But later on, I remembered I had these Gap khaki pants and decided to try a neutral palette. It is both fresh, versatile and oh-so polished to dress in a neutral/monochromatic palette and it sort of gives me a sense of confidence I can’t explain. Initially, I was afraid it wouldn’t work with my body type, as I am very curvy, but the cut and color of the pants along with the neutral color of the shirt balance my curves along with the rest of my body, almost elongating it a bit. Adding simple, gold jewelry and a neutral color bag will balance everything out. I’m liking this concept for spring and summer because it is simple and sophisticated at the same time. It is one concept I will be incorporating into my daily wardrobe a little more from now on.

Have a great week guys!

Xoxo,

Raquel

White flared jeans

I’m gonna be as frank as I can be: I loved the chilly weather we got down here in Orlando (for like 2 weeks, tops), but I was secretly hoping it would get warmer just so I could wear my most beloved pair of jeans : white with a huge flare. I bought these jeans ages ago from the Gap (similar here) and I can attest to why Gap is the shiznit when it comes to denim. These babies have stood the test of time and, one pregnancy and funked up body later, they still fit like it was the very first time. I wear these babies and it is instant chic-ness, I can’t even. Even with a simple, mustard-yellow tee , adding the right accessories these jeans give me that “own the room” status every girl secretly craves. To me, this outfit is the epitome of laid-back, easy-breezy and polished. Perfect for transitioning into summer.

On another note, sooo excited for Easter! Omg, we took Lucas for his pics with the Easter bunny and they turned out so darned cute I can’t even deal. It was the funniest thing because I was absolutely stressing out, looking at all the other kids and how they were being so good about taking their pics with the bunny (seriously, not one of them cried) and thinking “Omg I hope Lucas doesn’t totally ball out when we sit him down when his turn comes up”. But that kid is something else. The guy taking the pics started making him laugh and he was just the little charmer, sat down next to the bunny and smiled with his sweet little grin, I almost balled out myself #proudmommamoment!

So I hope all you mommas (and poppas) are getting those Easter baskets ready for your little bunnies and wishing you all a great week!

Spring florals

“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking”…If you loooove fashion, you know that one by heart. So yeah, florals for spring. And pastels. I love it all. It’s time to soften up my color palette and I am soooo in love with this color combo I can’t even deal.  This Old Navy blouse has been giving me major life because of it’s billowy flow and effortlessness, perfect for light weather. And of course those shorts you can’t live without that are sure to be a summer staple you can pair with just about any damn thing. This outfit lets me live out my utter desire to attend all those fabulous music festivals (*ahem*Coachella *ahem*) that will be making their way via my Instagram feed so I am living my fantasy vicariously through my clothes since I can’t physically attend said festivities…for now, ha!

So, funny story (not really funny, though) : we had gotten a new camera lens (we shoot with a Nikon J1, no DSLR as of yet, can’t seem to part ways with this one since my dad gifted it to me) and just as we’re getting ready to shoot, the camera wouldn’t recognize the damn lens. Annoying.com so now to wait for a new lens alll over again. Anywho, the show must go on and these little set backs are just crumbs on the floor, right?

Hope you all have a rockin’ week,

Xoxo,

Raquel

Mixing prints

mixed prints (5)mixed prints (4)mixed prints (3)mixed prints (6)mixed prints (7)

Hey guys! A new week is upon us with lots to do. Spring is in the air and I am so in the mood for fresh takes on my wardrobe I honestly can’t wait to share with you all. I am loving mixing prints – it’s a trend that’s been going on for a while now but I hadn’t come around to trying it – because I think it gives my spring wardrobe a little “refresh”, where I can take old pieces (like this dress I am wearing, similar below) and throw a classic striped tee over and make it completely “of the moment”. If you are new to the whole mixing prints thing, here are a couple of tips I want to share that have worked for me:

  1. Stick to earth or neutral colors i.e. pair greens with browns, grays with blush or pastels and keep strong colors as focal points to integrate everything together.
  2. Accessories help ground the look. Find a bag to tie the whole look together, whether it be of a similar color in your outfit or a neutral color. Gold, silver or rose gold jewelry will work best so not to distract too much from everything else and the whole look is not competing with itself.
  3. Be mindful of your body type. It goes without saying: not everyone has that Kendall Jenner silhouette, so if your like me (wiiide hips and smaller shoulders) try to balance the prints where it ‘softens’ your assets and not magnifies them i.e. if you have wide hips don’t wear stripes in this area, the busier print should be worn here in a cut that works with your silhouette and not against it (a-line cuts for wide hips, fitted cuts for straight body types).
  4. In my experience, the easiest prints to pair are stripes and polka dots. Both blend fantastically with florals, which for spring are a definite must prints.
  5. Attitude is everything. If you’re not feeling your look or are unsure of how it looks, it will show. Always be confident in your choice of prints because this is the key ingredient to making it look fabulous. When you exude confidence in your choices, that’s where you really shine!

Hope you rock those prints like a boss lady!

Xoxo,

Raquel

Black and blue

black legging jeans (3)black legging jeans (5)black legging jeans (4)black legging jeans (7)black legging jeans (2)

What is it about a good pair of black jeans that just gives a girl all the confidence in the world? I sure as hell feel like a million bucks when I put mine on, even if I am wearing sneaks or sandals with them and, when the fit is right, you better believe I will strut my little heart out in them. I decided to pair these (similar below) with the oldest plaid shirt in the history of plaid shirts (ok, maybe not the history of plaid shirts..geez!) but, it’s old (similar below) because plaid shirts are making a huge comeback (as if they ever left, duh) and you’ll be sure to see them everywhere. You’ve seen me rocking this black vest before and I am so glad I purchased it a while back because I have truly gotten so much mileage out of it. It’s funny because it seems very lightweight but it does a great job in complementing sweaters for keeping warm in windy and colder days. I call that a win! And finally, I decided to add a satchel (which my husband gifted me for Valentine’s Day…awww babe you shouldn’t have ha!) and am so glad he chose this style because it’s super roomy -literally everything fits in this thing- and I’m kinda over cross-body bags right now. This one is very lady-like and I love it!

‘Til next time, guys…

Blush pink

blush blouse

blush blouse

So I had another post scheduled for this week but had to post this one because it was just the best Valentine’s day surprise for me and Lucas from daddy. We went to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and had the best day ever, just the three of us…and a couple thousand other people ha! But that’s beside the point. It was such a lovely day (nice and cool) and I had originally picked out something else to wear that day thinking we’d probably go to dinner like we usually do, but I had gotten this top  from Target in a couple of colors and this blush pink one was just the perfect color for Valentine’s Day.

I decided to use it as a layering shell because I just feel that wearing it by itself was just too plain (I always need to pile on stuff or layer…I can’t help it). So I decided on this Zara top (old, similar below) just because the combo of the colors is so romantic. I’m so into blush, olive and camel it’s cray!  I like this particular shirt because the material feels nice and light so I wasn’t sweating like a hog with all the walking around we did. To offset all the “girliness”, I went with ripped jeans and obviously sneakers because walking around in heels at a theme park is = not cute.

How did you guys spend your Valentine’s Day? Share below!

Raquel

Who What Wear

who what wear top (5) who what wear top
who what wear top (3) who what wear top (4) who what wear top (6)

Ok, guys here is what I will be wearing for Valentine’s Day. To hell with red and pink. The Who What Wear ladies launched their most anticipated collection at Tarjay (I will not stop calling it that so there…) and I have gone buck wild purchasing almost everything in the collection. It is the chicest, most effortless collection/collaboration to hit these stores to date (in my humble opinion).

So this top: my God this top! Anywhere else you would be paying $50-$60 for something similar but the price is just right. The color, the print is just so fresh and elegant. Dress it up. dress it down..you can do no wrong. You can see that that the colors blend so well with both black and brown and I love that because to me black and brown together is just about the chicest color combos ever so this top just adds a pop with the blues and yellows. These ladies have hit a home a run with this collection and I can’t wait to style all the other pieces I got. I’m linking a few of their stuff below.

So, move over red and pink for Valentine’s day…I’ll be busy being fabulous in other, more interesting colors that day!

Raquel

Ok, I dunno guys, I’m not even gonna try and hide it: you’re gonna see me rockin’ menswear occasionally. I’ve always had a penchant for it so get used to it.

That being said: the other day I was over at Tarjay (ok, Target, jeez!) and was *ahem* accompanying my husband in the men’s department ’cause you know the poor soul asked me to help him pick out a new hoodie..”ugh, ok babe…i’ll help ya out”. But of course, ya’ll know me. My little wondering eye hovered over to this delightful little rack that was marked with a “50% off” sign and well..whatdaya know? The cutest, friggin’ sweatshirts in the cutest friggin’ colors….ON SALE! Hot damn, you know a girl can’t pass these things up. You know this!!

Listen, this is one piece you can serioulsy do so much with. I honestly like men’s better because the fit is looser and I can style it with just about anything. I decided on a brocade skirt (old, similar below) and high tops (old, similar below) because the juxtaposition of them together reminds me of my college years- yes, it’s been a while. The great thing is sweatshirts are really having a moment so get yours and get creative.

Casual cool

gray skirt

Geez Louise… what a week!! It’s been a roller coaster one (Lucas battling the flu, school work, work-work, rainy days) and lots of coffee to get me through! But all in all lots of lessons being learned along the way and good people surrounding me and my loved ones along with so many doors opening (professionally and personally) that I can only focus on a positive outlook for it all.

Well, back to clothing: I had bought this skirt over winter break at Marshall’s and the price literally floored me (you know how it is going to that store when you find something super cute and look at the price tag: score!). The gray on this skirt is so pretty, very light and a neutral that can easily work with literally any color palette. I opted for a hoodie on this occasion (we took Lucas to his 18 month checkup) because I wanted to keep the look very casual (this skirt can easily look very dressy) so I wanted to steer clear of that vibe.  I honestly love gray with brown or earthier tones, for that matter, because for some reason they help a look seem more polished, even when they are paired down with an item like a hoodie. And me and leopard, well…you know it’s sort of a love story..haha!

Well guys, that’s all she wrote for now.

Xoxo,

Raquel
